PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Your identity.
Your messages.
Your way to connect.

MoxChat is an end-to-end encrypted chat client for iOS, Android, Web and PC. Your identity stays yours, even when the route changes.

yes. it recovered without changing my identity.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF CHAT APP

Private communication,
without the single point of failure.

MoxChat keeps the surface familiar and the architecture deliberate. One client for your conversations, identities, devices and the connections underneath them.

THE GLOBAL MESH

A network that knows
where to go next.

MoxServer nodes learn verified routes over time, then use precise addressing before bounded relay-to-relay delivery. Your client connects to the relays you choose — never to the whole internet.

01

Discover, don’t subscribe to everything

Nodes exchange verified advertisements and keep a bounded set of useful neighbors. A larger directory does not mean a larger connection bill.

02

Fail over without re-registering

RelaySlot keeps your identity and delivery contract stable while a primary relay changes or recovers.

03

Stop when the route stops making progress

Multi-hop delivery is bounded and distance-aware. When there is no closer next hop, the mailbox retry can continue safely.

THE PRODUCT, IN PRACTICE

Quietly powerful.
Carefully bounded.

PRIVATE MESSAGING

Only the right people read it.

Private and group messages travel as end-to-end ciphertext, not readable relay content.

User-controlled identity keys. MLS manages group device membership.

RESILIENT ROUTING

Change the route, not the identity.

Use multiple relays with independent health, failover and recovery.

Precise addressing first, bounded relay-to-relay delivery when needed.

LOCAL FIRST

Your history stays with you.

Processed conversations and product state live locally as the long-term source of truth.

Encrypted device migration with chunks, checks, resume and atomic commit.

MOXBIT · NEARBY CHAT

When the internet is
not part of the room.

MoxBit is a separate Bluetooth Low Energy namespace for nearby discovery, direct sessions and small, bounded relays. It is not a transparent replacement for MoxServer Mesh.

01

Find the room around you

BLE discovery shows nearby MoxBit nodes with a clear local status.

02

Talk directly when you can

A direct session is preferred; small messages can move through nearby peers within a bounded TTL.

03

Keep the boundary visible

Nearby communication uses its own namespace, storage and runtime. The global relay path stays separate.

THE TRUST MODEL

Know what happens
between send and seen.

Mox is explicit about boundaries. Servers help messages arrive, but they do not become the place where your identity or your conversation lives.

Explore the system
01

Your identity is yours

Identity keys are user-controlled and separate from any individual relay URL.

02

Relays carry ciphertext

MoxServer can queue and route delivery without reading private or MLS message content.

03

Each service has one job

Files, calls and notifications use separate services and separate data boundaries.

THE MOX SYSTEM

One client.
Several focused services.

Open by design. Each service does a smaller job, so the whole system can stay understandable.

Install on LazyCat

Download the LPK and verify SHA256SUMS, then install from the LazyCat app interface or run this in the download directory:

lzc-cli app install moxserver.lpk
Deploy on Linux / macOS / Windows

The repository provides prebuilt binaries for each platform. No Go installation or compilation is needed. Get the distribution files first:

git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/MoxChat/MoxServer.git
cd MoxServer

Follow the deployment guide to verify files, prepare PostgreSQL and configure the service, then launch the binary for your system and architecture.

Platform configuration and startup steps

The LPK includes PostgreSQL. Set your own public Mesh URL after installation; disable HTTP and private endpoint allowances for public deployments.

MOXCHAT CLI

Bring conversations to your terminal.

MoxChat CLI is a Rust terminal client, available as mox. It supports independent identities, friends, encrypted private and group chats, and attachments, with an interactive TUI.

Connect your locally installed and signed-in Codex to receive AI replies in chat, or turn AI off and chat manually. The CLI and graphical client use separate identities and can add each other via QR code.

Install MoxChat CLImox
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ponzS/MoxChat-CLI/main/scripts/mox-cli-install.sh | sh
Install a binary. No Rust or compilation required.

macOS supports Apple Silicon / Intel. Linux supports x86_64 / ARM64 and requires glibc 2.28 or later.
